Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.60%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
7.6% ABV and 20 IBUs--and, as with all Scotch ales, hops are not the feature element. These "wee heavies" focus on malt aroma flavor texture. Our version incorporates a way heavy dose of peated malt, giving Kilt Burner a distinctive nose and palate. It’s deliciously seductive. You’ll want to find a quiet time and place to sit back and savor this peat--neat, of course.

reddish brown with a thin white head.

smell is of massive smoky peat and some dark fruit.

taste follows with a huge overdose of peat malt, way too smoky and overdone.

mouthfeel is ok, but slightly thin.

Drinkability is not that good, due to the smoky peat malt drop kick to the balls.

Overall, i hate to say it, but this beer is kind of a mess. IMO, the old full curl recipe was just fine.

On tap that the MSBC loft - chill hazed mahogany with a small, big-bubbled white head leaving scattered lace.

Smell is smoky, there's a nice sweet fruitiness, golden promise malt maybe, which would be indicative of the high quality I expect from MSBC.

Taste is heavy on the peat malt, and soapy. Not sure what to make of the soap, but it's awfully distinct. There's a bit of fruitiness as well, but it still doesn't cut through the peat, which is overdone, in spite of my taste for smoky beer.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter bodied side.

Drinkability is OK, but this is just way to heavy on the peat malt, which is way more phenolic then regular rauch, which I greatly prefer. One of the few misses from MSBC, normally they do bigger and better, but not here - it's just too much.

A limited on-tap offering at the brewery.

Deep ruby brown, dark but a bit translucent. Small foamy/large/bubbly white head.

Nose is smoky, sweet malts. Honey smoked ham. Breakfasty.

Taste has strong Rauchbier qualitites, with lingering toasted bacon flavors. nice slightly smokey sweetness up front, malts and honey. Ethanol mostly hidden. Very good.

Above average mouthfeel and drinkability.
