Second Chance Porter, a roast-y, chocolate-y American Porter brewed with Pacific NW hops and American Ale yeast. This was Brewer Jeremiah’s "second chance" to create a beer--his first was BREWtality.

On draught at the MSBC loft, Second Chance Porter is a dark brown with a small tan head that leaves sheets of foamy lace.
Smell is like super dark chocolate with NW hops.
Taste is full and robust, a nice dark char without being overly acrid, like coffee grinds with a hint of baker's chocolate and lingering bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is not as creamy as their beers often are, kind of a big bubbled, although the body is on the lighter side in a good way, particularly for the size.
Drinkability is pretty good, a sturdy porter with loads of flavor, and a little new school twist with the big NW hops. Well done Jeremiah!

Taste is full and robust, a nice dark char without being overly acrid, like coffee grinds with a hint of baker's chocolate and lingering bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is not as creamy as their beers often are, kind of a big bubbled, although the body is on the lighter side in a good way, particularly for the size.
Drinkability is pretty good, a sturdy porter with loads of flavor, and a little new school twist with the big NW hops. Well done Jeremiah!

A new draft-only American porter from Midnight Sun. In the glass it has a nice appearance, almost completely opaque with a nice tan head. The aroma is roast malt and hops, very enticing. On the palate there's no missing that this is an American porter, with plenty of hop bitterness from PNW hops to compliment the roasty porter notes. Good mouthfeel and a nice finish. Very drinkable and moreish.
I grabbed a growler to pair with a roast leg of lamb. More good stuff from the folks at Midnight Sun.
Feb 19, 2010A new draft-only American porter from Midnight Sun. In the glass it has a nice appearance, almost completely opaque with a nice tan head. The aroma is roast malt and hops, very enticing. On the palate there's no missing that this is an American porter, with plenty of hop bitterness from PNW hops to compliment the roasty porter notes. Good mouthfeel and a nice finish. Very drinkable and moreish.
I grabbed a growler to pair with a roast leg of lamb. More good stuff from the folks at Midnight Sun.

A draft only porter released last week.
Pours a very dark black with ruby highlights around the edges of the glass. Monster light tan head retains incredibly well and turns to the consistency of whipped cream, leaving very nice lacing all the way down the glass.
Nose is full or roasted dark grains and american hops. A slight coffee like aroma, but not strong.
Taste follows. Strong undertones of bitter roasted malts with an almost coffee like presence. Nice and roasty, but easily balanced by a pretty strong hop presence. I like the extra hop presence quite a bit. Not quite a black IPA, clearly a roasty porter, nice balance. The finish is nice and bitter, but roasted grains remain the solid backbone and linger on into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is quite good here. I really like the viscosity, and the carbonation is pretty much ideal. Biting dryness on the finish, but it works with the high dosage of hops.
Drinkability is pretty solid. Classic porter old farts might complain about the hoppiness, but this is 2009 gramps, keep up.
Overall, i really like this one. A nice roasty porter that shakes things up a bit with some extra hop presence. Easy drinking and packed with flavor. Glad i've got a growler to enjoy.
