on tap at the loft 7/9/10
brilliant golden color, got a little 6 ozer, with a small puffy head. it's slightly sweet, malt forward, hops are buried a bit underneath the malt. not sure how old this was at the time. little bit of pine and spice. the alcohol is well disguised, and, though a bit sweet, exceedingly drinkable.

This was generously provided by Geoff from Bailey's taproom, who brought a growler down from Midnightsuns's 15 anniversary. Was able to sample it at the gathering at Hannont's yesterday.
Was told that this is essentially an imperial maibock, with abv. in the 9% range. Wasn't certain about the abv., so thought it best not to enter it.
The beer pours and apple cider gold color with good head retention and lacing. The beer is very sweet and malty on the nose, though there's also some bready cookie dough and some underlying hoppy citrus as well. Flavors replicate the nose in this fine beer, though it's certainly on the sweet and malty side. However, there's a touch of bitterness in the finish that helps to balance the sweetness. There's also bit of heat in the finish, which is reminder that the alcohol is up there a bit in this beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with the beer showing a fairly smooth and long finish. Drinkability is pretty good, though the alcoholc bite in the finish detracts just a bit. Still, this is a pretty nice beer, and one I was happy to have the opportunity to try.
