Poured into a Spiegelau glass.

Pours dark amber with a nice tight foamy head. Good retention and lacing.

Ester aromas present but muted. Some vague bready/yeast aroma.

The brew is somewhat muddled on the flavors, in that you have to focus on the various Dubbel notes you are looking for one at a time. Banana esters, spicy yeast, etc. are there, but they aren't distinct. As the brew warms, the spicy notes become the most pronounced, which is a little off. It develops a winter-warmer character, really.

The brew is very drinkable, nonetheless. Well carbed and modestly drying at the finish, which is a nice surprise at this ABV.

It looks and drinks the part, but that's about it. It's not a bad beer, it's just not a good one either.

Can from Costco in Juneau AK.
Overall disappointed because this is very off style for a Belgian dubbel. Too spicy - a peppery, rye spiciness (did they actually use rye malt in this??). Lacking in any of the fruity ester Belgian yeast characteristics. It's not bad if you want like an American rye strong dark ale. But it's not a Belgian dubbel.
It's a pretty dry finish. The rich-sweet malt flavors of a dubbel don't come through, probably because they're overwhelmed by the balance tilted heavily towards spiciness.
