Grabbed a 12oz bottle at Midnight Sun brew pub a few months ago, and tried out last night. First I’ve had in quite a few years. Interested to see impact of Weller barreling.
Overall disappointed. Not really unexpected that pour created little in the way of head or lacing at 13%. But despite rich ruby accented and dark cherry brown color…it also looked thin in the pour. Nose was appreciable for barleywine… but didn’t really notice barrel or bourbon. Taste was similar…a tasty rich English style barleywine but missing anything really noteworthy from the barreling. Body was thin…giving impression that barrel had taken more so than given…absorbed beer more so than imparting flavor. Also for some reason there was considerably bright carbonation until it aired/warmed in the glass for awhile.
Perhaps memory made me expect something a bit more luxuriant, but instead it was just a nice barleywine without anything particularly striking or commendable. Glad I was able to try, but not as enjoyable as had hoped.

Poured from 12oz bottle at fridge temp. Pours a VERY murky and muddy brown. Zero head. The nose is full of toffee and bourbon. Some raisin, figs, and a bit of hard candy.
The taste is really nice. A bit on the boozy side, but full of rich toffee and dark fruit. Bourbon, figs, prunes, bread, slight leather note, plums, and a hint of brown sugar.
Really nice, but not quite at the level of the older Arctic Devils from years ago.
