Grabbed a bottle while visiting Midnight Sun last week.
FINALLY… a big delicious Milk Stout. Excellent.
Understand it’s in many ways out of character with its humble British origins and way too many so-so American versions.
THIS creation is full and rich in flavor ; creamy full feel yet still a mix of well integrated lightly bright carbonation. Not imperial, just a wonderfully well balanced brewing. I really like Blanton’s bourbon, but this may be the best complement to a porter/ stout that I’ve had. Look is good, but largely unremarkable. But nose is ripe and inviting.
Where it really stands out is a very good milk stout based caressed by the Blanton’s barrel. Then the full favorable body… just “leaps” out at you.
One of the best beers I’ve had in awhile, and definitely the standard for how to take a Milk Stout from ordinary to exquisite.
Kudos MS!!
p.s. Accompanying this brew with a Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro Diplomatico probably didn’t hurt :)
