750mL bottle fom itracy63 (awesome man, thank you!). No bottling date. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.
Pours a murky russet with one finger of ecrue froth. The head quickly dissipates to a tiny collar, depositing only a few small patches of lace.
The nose is somewhat subdued. Wine, oak and wheat with a faint sweetness in the background. The wine is there in spades every time my nose draws near.
Red wine & wheat are all over the taste. They are complimented by oak, caramel, orange, lemon, vanilla, faint spice, earth and a little booze. The play between those huge wine and wheat layers and the softy citrusy hops is both unique and delicious. As with most big, barrel aged beers this opens up and gets richer as it nears room temperature. The alcohol is well integrated and this goes down easily for its 10% abv.
A very interesting body- dry, semi chalky, fluffy and medium full with light carbonation. Red wine, wheat grain, faint oak and a hint of citrus.
I'd never heard of Broken Tooth Brewing but I sure did enjoy their slightly off center take on my favorite style. Beautiful interplay of flavors. Perhaps the were being cheeky, aging wheatwine in wine barrles but it worked quite well.
