Growler into a standard pint glass produces a cola-colored stout with some lighter hues on the edges. Minimal head on the beer that leaves a thin film covering. Not too much lacing on the glass.
A somewhat bitter smelling stout--must be the citric American hops and juniper berries at work. Also smell some roasted malts, coffee, and bitter dark chocolate.
Upfront, I get a gin flavor from the juniper berries. Also some hop bitterness and light citrus notes. This then transitions to a sweeter finish with some chocolate and caramel malt flavors. Roasted malt backbone. Intriguing flavor profile.
Mouthfeel is smooth with an intermediate viscosity.
Overall an interesting brew in the first tap brew series. While I usually think juniper berries can add an interesting twist to a beer, they were a bit too front and center in this stout for my liking. While I enjoyed 1-2 pints, going beyond that, the gin taste from the berries became a bit much. Here is the official description for those wanting more information: November's First Tap is a stout brewed with citric American hops and a healthy dose of Juniper Berries. The Juniper Berries give a slight Gin flavor which intermingles with the stout's roasty body, perfectly quenching for these windy early winter nights. Zen Stout just is. Let go and enjoy! Brewed by Tyler Jones OG 1.058, ~27 IBU, ABV 5.4%.
