can into glass
A little ring of beige foam, around edge of glass. Viscous, almost oily film on glass. Black and completely opaque look. Heavily caramelized toffee, and equal parts, very dark roasted grain and dark chocolate, for the smell. Taste starts with firm, heavily toasted barrel and boozy zing to it, followed by a nearly burnt butterscotch flavor and finishes on that note.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to almost nothing with a thin ring of bubbles around the glass. Aroma of dark toasted malt with light char, chocolate, coffee and rye whiskey. Flavor is semi-sweet dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, woody oak, rye whiskey, coffee and rye bread; light caramel with rye whiskey and chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess despite the quiet pour. I've liked all versions of this, but the rye might be my favoite. Nicely authentic rye whiskey character with hints of rye bread. Solid basic chocolate and light coffee rounds things off. This is a flavorful, well made barreled stout, I'm surprised there are no other reviews of it.
