Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger khaki head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, coffee and orange peel. Flavor is dark toasted malt with a touch of char, bitter bakers chocolate, mild vanilla and Seville orange. Bitter chocolate and orange finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I'm not familiar with the cookie this is fashioned after, but apparently one with orange peel and chocolate. Both flavors are nicely on display here. Rather dry for a pastry stout with not much sweetness, but has a study malt base closer to a foreign stout than a dessert stout. The orange adds a pleasant touch with authentic orange flavor as well as some citrus rind. Hope the pastry stout labeling doesn't scare away the sweet stout adverse; this would appeal to most stout fans.
