16oz can, about a month and a half old
Pours barely a finger of white head into my Willi glass. Retention is low and the head fades within a minute. Initial lacing looks pretty nice. Body is a creamy tan, zero visibility. Looks ok so far.
Nose absolutely bursts with fruit, significant notes of berries and key lime-pie. Very creamy, almost desert like, but not cloying. Smells wonderful.
Flavor is very odd. You definitely taste all those oats, which is…fine. There is a hint of dankness, but not really much berry/fruit flavor until it warms, and even then it’s mild. Somewhat underwhelming.
Bitterness is pretty elevated, and the carbonation is also very high, both kinda unusual for a hazy. Definitely a little sweet, but it’s not too bad. Body is medium-light, the only area that the rice really shows up. Overall I generally don’t mind the high bitterness and carbonation, it pairs pretty well with the light body; sweetness helps balance. That said, the bitterness does linger an uncomfortable amount of time. Overall a pretty good mouthfeel.
Drinkability is pretty nice. A little odd to have such a heavy bitterness with a relatively light bodied beer, but my palate has been destroyed by hops over the years, so I could care less.
Appearance turned out alright. Lacing was pretty patchy, but decent.
Flavor improves a little over time, berry & pine come out, but I wouldn’t say it’s a 180. Overall a good beer.
