Look: Dark as night on the pour which initiates a silky-looking light brown head to form and hold as a pillow, slowly receding, and leaving the rim coated with lacing
Aroma: Dark chocolate, warm brown bread, roast, wafts of rye, dark caramel, roasted tree nuts, and light earthiness
Taste: Starts off with a killer combo of rich dark chocolate and dark caramel that hits hard and settles in, quickly developing depth. Spicy rye asserts itself in the middle, along with roast, bread, and earthy notes that all play nicely together and off of one another until it closes with chocolate, roast, and caramel. I’m not getting much alcohol heat throughout nor on the finish
Mouthfeel: Full, silky smooth, medium-high carbonation, and fairly smooth on the finish with just a kiss of dryness
Overall: This is some tasty stuff. I love what these folks do but had tried this beer a few years ago in a 500mL bottle and it was a thin, watery, boozy mess IMO so wanted to try it again since I now saw it was in 6pks and hoped my last experience was an outlier. It was as this is a really tasty rye infused Russian Imperial Stout that is full bodied, tasty, and dangerously smooth for 9.4% ABV. I’m glad I took the plunge this time and would definitely buy/order this again
