Poured from fridge temp into a snifter. Pours a nice dark brown with light brown head. Nose is caramel and dark fruit. Not a ton of complexity. Getting a bit of orange peel as well. Taste is really interesting. Getting a hint of mint and spice upfront, which is unusual for a barley wine. Definitely picking up some toffee and dark fruit (figs), but also getting a bit of menthol and cough syrup. Maybe even a hint of soy sauce. A bit of pine, wheat, and funk as well. A slight bitterness on the back end - reminds me of tree sap. Mouthfeel is a bit dry and surprisingly thin for 13%. I was expected a deeper malt flavor given that it's an English barley wine. Overall, a pretty good barley wine, but not close to my favorite of this style.
