The brewery describes this as a dark saison aged in red wine barrels with raspberries added. On tap at Hops and Pie in Denver, CO.
The beer has a light red color, typical of red wine barrel aged beers. Beautiful looking beer. Smell matches the description. I can definitely smell the red wine characteristics, as well as a bouquet of raspberries. Awesome. Carbonation is moderate and seems appropriate to style.
Taste: Tart and sour, great raspberry notes. This is a mixed sour culture fermentation. Everything comes together beautifully, the sourness, the raspberry and the red wine flavor. Just phenomenal. Taste is 4.75/5. You can definitely taste the raspberry, but it's not overpowering. However if you don't like beers with fruit in it, you won't like this one. This is a limited release and was a "labor of love" for this brewery, according to their website. Makes sense to me. You can tell they put a lot of heart and soul into this beer. Definitely the best red wine barrel aged beer I've had. I don't get a lot of the typical saison yeast characteristics, but I think if this beer tasted too "Belgiany" it would have detracted from it. If red wine barrel aged beers or sours are your thing, check it out. Simply outstanding.
