my first from these guys, courtesy of my brother. a somewhat malty ipa, but a unique hop complexion still pushes through it, pretty high alpha, not insanely well refined, but a fine brew and i always love trying stuff from breweries ive never heard of. a little haze and a copper look to this, not messy but not super tidy either, average white head from the pint can, plenty of carbonation evident. it smells relatively fresh, slightly nutty and toasted on the grain side without being objectively sweet, faintly autumnal in that way, but with sturdy hops adding a nice upbeat punch to this, pithy grapefruit, cut pine, and hybrid cannabis. some yeast character in the flavor, not quite english, and not flawed in any way, but also not exactly neutral, adds to the bready vibes of the malt for me. early onset bitterness from the hops but with some fruity nuance too, juicy orange, green grape, and maybe a even like a pear ester teasing a belgian thing. good back end bitterness, considerable body, and a crispness late that i didnt expect with this color. decent ipa overall, bold hop profile defines it, a little old school in terms of balance, and maybe not quite at the overall quality level it should be, but enjoyable nevertheless. id be curious to try more of their offerings...

Pours a hazy copper color with a small head and a little lacing.
Smells of grassy floral hops with some citrus.
Tastes of lightly tart grapefruit with some peach like sweeter notes. Mildly bitter finish.
Medium light body with medium carbonation. Watery mouthfeel.
This is a mildly juicy hoppy IPA.

Very Disappointed in Devil's Purse! I went out of my way to bring friends to this brewery and did not have a great experience. First off...they would not let anyone taste any of their beers before buying one. Not even a sip??? And...they charge $4 for a 5 oz taster of their IPAs. So...I have to pay $4 each just to deside which beer I want to have. I have been to a LOT of breweries and this was a first for me... Then, after I decide to get a 4-pack to-go, they gave me a four pack that has a "best by" date of Nov 17...two issues here...what breweries today do not put the dates the beer was actually canned on??? I do not know when this beer was "born", but I am guessing they use a 6 month window from the canning date, so the 4 pack of cans I bought AT the brewery is likely 5 months old...and it tastes like it. I am an IPA drinker and I know the difference is HUGE between beer that is 1 month vs 5 months old. On top of that...the beer I bought AT the brewery wasn't even brewed at the Cape Cod Brewery...it was contract brewed in Pawtucket, RI...it tastes like and entirely different beer! So...the only reason I am giving this brew 2 stars is that the fresh beer I had at the brewery was pretty good. Everything else about this visit was a big time fail. I hope the brewers/owners read this and take note. Sad, because I really liked the brewery in past visits a few years back. Not really thinking I will return, or seek out their brews in the the future. Oh well...

This beer is not as good as it was when it was brewed in Dennis MA. Out sourcing to Pawtucket does not work with any of the Devil's Purse beers. None of them are as good as when they were brewed in small batches in Dennis MA. Very pissed I bought this and didn't check where it was brewed. Won't do it again. Too bad Devil's Purse has done this! I thought they were better than this when they first started, This beer is very bitter unlike the earlier version.
