Sampling a 500 ml bottle poured at cellar temp into a snifter. The beer pours a deep brown color, very dark cocoa to almost jet black. Very minimal creamy tan head foams up and fades to the thinnest of edge layers.
Aroma is dark cocoa, molasses, some vanilla and a bit of rum note. There is a bit of a boozy aroma from the 9.5% but not overly big nose.
THe first sip reveals a fairly thick body with very fine gentle spacious carbonation. Silky smooth texture adds to the drinkability ease on this beer.
Flavor is roasted malt with molasses and a bit of brown sugar. There is some vanilla and rum notes that mix in with the beer and the finish is dry and has some wooden notes. No warming booze after the swallow and the beer is easier to drink than the 9.5% advertises. Another fine beer from a new brewery that I will hit up on summer vacation next year again to see what is available.
