Copenhagen 28/3 2020. 33 cl capped and waxed bottle. As "Nerdbrewing Implements Imperial Chocolate Truffle Stout - Tonka & Vanilla Edition". Nerbrewing's usual chatty design with a lot of info on the beer. Shades of brown in the background.
Pours opaque dark brown with a medium-sized, dark beige head. Fairly stable. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer and crawling up the side of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is potent and rich. Sweet and spicy. Very dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, almond. Perfumed. Dark fermented fruit. Plum and cherry.
Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, soft, smooth, flat texture. A little sticky.
Flavor is intense, sweet and sugary with a light bitterness underneath. Aftertaste is strongly sweet. Lingering. Light booziness in the finish.
Heavy, sweet and perfumed powerhouse.

Imperial chocolate truffle stout – Tonka & Vanilla Edition
APPEARANCE: Dark brown pour yields a two finger, slightly looser looking, foamy, light tan head with great retention. Black body with higher levels of carbonation. Head eventually recedes to a full, creamy foam cap. Half wisp remains leaving some good lacing down the glass. A little foamy at the start, but good staying power.
SMELL: Lots of chocolate, some brownies or truffle character, vanilla cream, some tonka beans, licorice aromas, as well as some roasted notes on the nose. Medium strength.
TASTE: Chocolate truffle flavors, roasted malts, some vanilla cream and licorice up front. Tonka beans and some alcohol at the swallow, moving into a bold finish of roasted malts, sweet vanilla cream and truffle character, mild tonka notes, some pure, bitter chocolate and a bit of alcohol linger on the palate. Flavorful.
PALATE: Fuller body and slightly lower levels of carbonation. Creamy and silky on the palate, goes down smooth with a bit of a burn and finishes rather sticky on the palate. A bit of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is pretty dam solid for sure. Good nose and flavor on this one, with a solid feel to boot. Tonka can be overwhelming at times, but this is done very nicely. Something I’d gladly drink again, and this one makes it worth exploring more of the series that just came to Holland. Recommended.

A lot on the Tonka, quite nice gourmet imperial stout even if it could have a thicker mouthfeel.
