Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV and brewery/country...
L- Pours jet black with a brief 1mm super-dark chocolate coloured lid. This soon clears to a thin ring.
S- Boozy, whisky I believe.
T- Deep/dark, powerful coconut, back to heavy roast, chocolate and straight to a BIG ABV% brush across my palate - ZING!, mega whisky, a hint of burning (my tongue on fire?). That was the first 2-3 sips. After that the overall pungency pushes coconut into the background. Now it's more deep/dark cocoa+whisky + seriously intense.
F- Massive, deep, dark, brooding, large whisky aspect.
O- Woah, quite the show-stopper for my palate, lot's of fun drama. Initially I thought the coconut edge prominent but it soon faded back into this beers overall balance. This is quite a beast, only about 1% of the beers I've had have around this ABV% or higher. It'll help if you are ok with whisky notes in beer (obv) and ok with coconut for a few initial sips. It's so intense it's made for sharing. Would make an interesting brew to give/share at Xmas.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> Barley+oats, plus bourbon barrel, so that's whiskey aspect vs whisky...
330ml bottle BB: 01/Mar/2026 £11 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
