Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Black, thick, pours like engine oil. 2mm super-dark tan head that soon gets killed off by it's own ABV%. ps@+10mins, actually I'm surprised to see that it manages to reform and maintain a peripheral ring in my nucleated glass. Nice, much prettier with a bit of foam left...
S- Liquor barrel. I'm not a liquor drinker but perhaps whisky? Surprisingly TBH I sense nothing else!
T- Woah! How can this not smell pungently? Huge coffee/cocoa (it seems to alternate from one to the other) then BAM the ABV comes in then a mega chocolate aspect with some richness but then a dry edge such as you get in a bitter/dark chocolate. Some richness + bitter/dark + ABV% is the palate from then onwards...
F- The feel is like melting 1/2 a bar of Lindt 90% chocolate on your tongue at the same time (yeah then slam a double shot of good malt whisky on top).
O- Simply massive and yet not OTT in any way. It's quite rich, ie nowhere near sweet. Clearly big-ABV% (say 12%?) yet that's not burning or shouty on the palate. Perhaps better suited for winter. Made for slow-sippin' or sharing, really, a whole bottle feels like mucho. Would make a great Xmas gift for a beer-head. Definitely a statement beer!
Review1997/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> Bourbon barrels, 12.9%, contains malted barley, oats and lactose...
330ml bottle BB: 01/03/2026 £11 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
