This robust Black IPA is lead by hints of coffee and hopped four times during the boil. Chocolate and flaked rye create a silky smooth mouth feel making this big ale deceptively drinkable.

On tap at the brewery. Black with a thin layer of brown head. Smells of coffee. Fairly light body. Tastes of dark roast coffee, roasted malt, and a lingering earthy bitterness. Black IPA is a conflicted style, but especially with the coffee addition this one ends up feeling like an extra bitter stout. Not bad, but maybe trying to do too much (coffee, rye, malt, hops all competing).

The bottle I had tasted infected. There was a little coffee, then chocolate then a huge, nasty, dirty flavor that overpowered everything else. It tasted like dirt. I know these guys are just starting out, so I hope they get it together and fix it, because it definitely tasted infected to me. Good luck, but as for now: yuck.
