750ml bottle. Waxed and capped bottle.
Dark brown colored body, with a thin edge of medium brown back lit highlights. Big two finger light tan head upon initial pour, which subsides slowly.
Aroma of chocolate dominated dark roasted malts. Has some minor toffee and vanilla notes.
Taste of rougher dark roasted malts, with black licorice joining the dark chocolate, toffee, and vanilla. After taste is a bitter dark chocolate that smooths out to a milk chocolate.
Medium mouth feel, but any smoothness is overrun with the bitterness in the taste. Very good carbonation.
This beer presents itself well, and hides its higher ABV%. As being from a small, local brewer this beer is a little rough around the edges but it has aged well, and is a pleasant sipper. It lacks somewhat the smell and flavors of a Russian Imperial Stout, but overall the beer is well done.

This beer pours a nice thick black color. 1 1/2 finger brown head. Retention is good, and there's some nice lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose is somewhat muted. There's some of the aromas that make a good RIS, but very weak.
Taste - well, the taste is also a bit muted. Some chocolate, toffee, and other flavors, but a lot weaker than I'd like. There's some barrel presence, but also muted.
Feel - is a bit watery for this ABV beer.
Overall, it's ok, but it could be a lot better. The flavors are just too weak for a RIS.
