750ml elegant Champagne-style bottle - an amber ale, made in the 'Belgian' persuasion.

This beer pours a hazy, somewhat sediment-strewn medium copper amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and fairly creamy off-white head, which leaves some chunky melting iceberg lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of semi-sweet caramel malt, wet cake, muddled, and kind of sour dark fruit, a bit of clammy nuttiness, and earthy, weedy, and grassy hops. The taste is more sugary, and fairly pithy caramel malt, a certain yeasty breadiness, stale orchard stone fruit, oily nuts, and leafy, earthy, and wet grassy hops.

The bubbles are pretty well sublimated to a weak, underwhelming frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and still clammy and pithy, take yer choice, in its otherwise acceptable smoothness. It finishes on the sweet side, the bready, yeasty caramel still herding the sheep that are the taste receptors that find solace in such a thing.

Yeah, this evokes too many restive demons from years of drinking poorly-made amber ales - though in this case, the yeastiness is apparently intentional, but in the end, it still does little to service this as a salable brew. There's quality here, for sure, but it's aligned in a much different direction than I myself would prefer.
