Slightly hazy ruby color with a bit of pinkish foam. Aroma is really fruity with cherry and cherry pit notes, not overly funky. Taste moves more towards red wine territory, fruity and tart, not very acidic, quite smooth body for a lambic. Really good one, tasty, balanced and quite easy to drink.

A 750ml bottle at the brewery. 2015 version bottled on 28th October 2015. Poured into a Cantillon tasting glass.

Appearance: It poured a slightly hazy purple-ish, grape red colour with a one finger pinkish head that settles to a thin layer with moderate lacing.

Aroma: Sour, tart, fruity, grape, cherry and strawberry.

Taste: Quite similar to the aroma with sour, tart, grape, cherry, strawberry, cranberry, raspberry and light funkiness.

Mouthfeel: Light creaminess, light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: This was excellent. It looks great, tastes great and was refreshing.

Cantillon carignan 2015

White head. Ruby color. Beautiful.

Very fruity. Grapes, tannins, leather, and oak. Berries show the most. Light funk with acidic noted and vinegar.

Very enjoyable. Easy drinking. Complex.

Carignan recolte 2015 (2015 vintage). Bottled 28 October 2015. Label is dark yellow/beeswax in colour and "Cantillon" appears in red text at its top.

Bottle is 75cl format and comes in green glass. Bottle purchased at Cantillon brewery in Brussels for 15 euro and reviewed live as a fruited (I.e. graped) Lambic.

HEAD: ~2cm wide head. Recedes within 2 minutes, leaving no lacing. Nice consistency; nice complexion.

BODY: Vibrant bright red. Translucent; semitransparent. No yeast can be seen within.

It's a great look for a fruited Lambic. I'm eager to try it.

AROMA: Suggests a soft powdery brew with a red wine emphasis. Also, plenty of complex bacterial intangibles and lambicus yeast complexity, lending it about a 3-4/10 sourness in terms of intensity. Acidic but not acetic or vinegary. Subtle oak lurks beneath the surface. A blip of clean Cantillon funkiness. Mild red grape character; it seems mellow but contributory. More tartness would be nice.

I detect no booziness nor off notes.

Aromatic intensity is average for a Lambic.

TASTE: Semisweet red grape, grapeskin, rose wine, really reticent muted oak. And that's it for the barrel...

Base brings plenty of fruitiness, but it's indistinct. Wheat and malted barley are so neutral they let the fruit and sourness shine.

Speaking of the sourness, I get about a 3-4/10 intensity. Not much tartness, to its detriment. These seemingly young grapes would really benefit with more of a tart acidic flavour.

Blips of wild red berries. Subtle bacterial intangibles. A kiss of that clean Cantillon funkiness.

Not leathery, lemony, horseblanket-redolent, or overtly brettanomyces-emphatic.

Balanced and rather enjoyable, with notable subtlety, nuance, and intricacy. Depth of flavour is good, but could be better.

A biteen jammy, which is nice. Sweetened cranberry comes to mind.

TEXTURE: Acidic, smooth, wet, supple, light to medium-bodied, lightly tart, refreshing, a biteen powdery. Not quite as soft as the best beers in the style, nor quite as delicate. More of a more smacky more puckering presence on the palate would be nice.

Not oily, gushed, harsh, hot, rough, scratchy, astringent, syrupy, or sticky.

OVERALL: Highly highly drinkable, with a great presence on the palate. An(other) extraordinary brew from possibly the best brewery in the world, and absolutely a must try. More great work from Cantillon.

B+ (3.84) VERY GOOD
