The "F**k Yo Passport" Tasting. 750ml bottle into Cantillon taster.

Pours reddish/orange in color, minimal white head. Tons of pinot, which is surprising and awesome, nice sour notes, oak, and some tannins in there as well. Flavor is a lot of the pinot character, oak, berries, light funk and a medium level of sour. Light body, light carbonation, dry finish.

I preferred this one over the Muscat, but both are equally amazing beers.

Thanks for the legwork Mike! Another in one of the bottles-I-ever-thought-I'd-ever-see series. 750ml screen printed capped and corked bottle into a Cantillon sherry glass. Reviewed at a tasting from notes.

Pours a stunning deep purple/orange color. 1 finger white head that dissipates quickly. Light, oily legs with no lace. Pretty beer.

Nose is grape juice, moss, wet wood with a light tartness. Jammy, fruity and aromatic. Very appetizing.

Opens grape, rotting wood and foamy. Grape skin tart and bitterness in the middle with a slightly sweet and tart grape character at the end. Finishes sweet and vinous with a tart, puckering aftertaste. Good balance. Close but not quite as good as the Muscat.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and foamy in the mouth and goes down prickly and dry. Puckering, juicy finish with a filmy, lightly dry aftertaste. Complements the flavor nicely.

Having this side-by-side with the Muscat, you can really tell the difference between what each grape type adds. Both were a real pleasure!

750 ml bottle at Akkurat, bottled in 2005, served in a gueuze glass.

A- Pours a hazy reddish orange color, produces an inch of fizzy white head that recedes to a thin layer and leaves spotty lacing.

S- Surprisingly juicy and fruity, lots of red grape, a bit of honey and fruit sweetness, as well as some lemon and lactic acidity. Some damp, earthy funk comes out as it warms, but the fruit is most prominent.

T- As with the aroma, the grapes stand out the most, providing lots of fruity, vinous flavors and a bit of sweetness, but the sweetness is quickly crushed by huge acidity and some lemon. Also oak and moist, earthy funk. Finishes vinous and dry, but still has a lot of juicy fruit flavors.

M- Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, feels very soft and smooth, very dry finish.

O- A very tasty beer, even after 8 years the fruit is very vibrant, a great beer overall.

217th Review
75cl bottle shared at Akkurat with a great crew
Poured in a gueuze glass
Enjoyed on 9 May 2012

Vintage: 2005 - the only one to my knowledge

Enjoyed next to the Reed Gueuze Muscat.

A: Tannish pink in color. Half (thin white) fingernail on brisk pour.

S: Unripened grapes, oak, dark fruit, and tartness. Cantillon funk and earthiness as well. Smells very, very sour, but nice.

T: A blend of grapes, lemons, oak, and mild aged cheese. Touch of spice near the end. Funk and barnyard balance is strong, but sourness is over-the-top on this one and takes away from my enjoyment of it.

M: Light/medium body with soft carbonation. Even though there was a small head, this tasted almost flat.

O: Having consumed this side-by-side to its sibling (Reed Gueuze Muscat), I thought this beer was a bit too unrounded and flat for my liking. The sourness was too much; however, I think with a bit of age it will balance out nicely. It was definitely good, complex, and fun to drink, but I would pick the Muscat over of this one.

Pour is transparent deep golden amber with very little white head. The nose nice, light funk, a bit musky and dank, sweet vinous aromas, cherry and red grape with light tart and dusty notes. The flavor has the light funk, musky and dank. The barrel blends in well adding oak, sweet red grapes, smooth vinous flavors. The finish has the dusty cantillon funk as the medium body smoothly rolls over the tongue with a sharp carbonation and dry finish. The barrel is integrated extremely well, very drinkable beer.

Bottle split with Danko at Akkurat, I lost my notes on this and I hadn't slept in days, just wandering around lost. This was the first beer we drank. Took about 20 minutes to fish this one out of the abyss, served in a lambic basket. Wonderful, expensive looking bottle. Beer poured a pinkish orange, pretty clear, with a healthy and fizzy white head. Quite sour nose, nice collage of lemons, red grapes, dry, dry oak, and pronounced funk. Flavor was puckering in a strange way, very sour-forward. Lemons mostly, definitely some musty grapes. Musty and dank. Acidity was a tiny, tiny bit high for my liking. A rare pleasure to drink, though not as good as some of Cantillon's more recent grape experiments (Pinot D'Aunis).
