Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a fine one finger white head with thick lacing, looks good. Aroma of neutral malt with a faint spicy biscuit component, citrus hops and light lemon and green onion. Flavor is lightly grainy malt, citrus and piney hops, lemon, grapefruit and pine needles. Finishes with sharp piney hop bitterness that is slightly astringent. Light to medium bodied with sharp carbonation. I thought Ghostfish did a decent job with their witbier and wanted to try something else from them, so this seemed a good opportunity. It's tough to do a fair review of their ales because brewing around the gluten in beer takes one if the major body and flavor components out. That being said, this is a pretty satisfying IPA in presenting a very nice hop bill with good citrus and pine notes. I like a dense, preferably caramel body to my IPAs, so even some of the drier, lighter malt IPAs taste a bit similar to this to me. If I hadn't had a million full gluten IPAs to compare this too, I'd be very happy to enjoy this great style with a beer this well made. The expertise in making gluten free beers has improved exponentially in the last 5 years and I think this is one of the best breweries attempting it. Not up there with my favorite West Coast caramel bomb, but a fine brew.
