When we first brewed this off-the-wall beer in the summer of 2016, we figured it would scare off all but the most adventurous heat-seeking drinkers. We couldn’t have been more wrong! Fresh ghost peppers combined with funky Belgian saison make this one of the hottest beers in our taproom. Get it while it’s hot!
Tasting notes: A huge amount of fresh pepper flavor and moderate heat up front, revealing fruity Belgian-style aromatics and a sweet malt body as the heat fades.
Ingredients : malted millet and malted buckwheat (from Grouse Malting Co.), malted rice (from Eckert Malting Co.), brown rice, beet sugar, peppers, hops, yeast
ABV: 6%
IBU: 15

DATE: May 31, 2024... OCCASION: easing into a beautiful weekend with a Ghostfish offering I found in Lancaster, courtesy of Joey's soccer tournament... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter...pours a whirling swirl of bubbles that build a massive, pillow-soft white head atop a sallow greenish-golden body... this thing is alive, a welcome sight!... the aroma is appreciable, with apple, garden herbs, tobacco, and pepper intensifying the experience... bubble gum and mint as well... first sip, and my lips are singed! Confession: I am not a heat seeker, so this is uncommon territory for me in general and with beer specifically... the burn travels swiftly through the mouth to the throat, where a fire is stoked and burns with fierce intentions... beyond the pepper, the sipping is pretty casual, with a medium body and a soft overall weight... again, the effect is probably spot-on for its goal, but this is more discomfort than I look for in a beer--the pepper is sharp and has my mouth throbbing and my face sweating... there isn't a lot more flavor in the profile, unless I am being overwhelmed by its main element... the funk retreats from its purported strength in the aroma... the exhale produces some nicotine and basil... paired with the right food, this may excel... as a stand-alone, it is a style I am happy to have tried once but will have to prep for in the future...

Bomber from the Boise Co-op. Kind of a flat looking pour, bright golden with light Amber hue, kind of hazy. Aroma provide some hints of the peppers used in this Brew but still has a fairly malty Aroma as well. Taste is a little bit more of the peppers, not quite as hot as I was expecting. A bit of a mild burn but not much of else flavor to this. Called a Saison but no evidence of the yeast. A bit underwhelming.
