Thoroughly enjoyed from the bomber in a snifter, and not surprising since I LOVE
the Blacks Dawn. This nice hybrid pours a lovely muddled blackish brown with a
nice head of light tan foam that settles to a thick ring and a very thin layer with light
sudsy lacing. Nose of heavy black strap, brulee, light vanilla notes, and subtle char.
Flavors exceed the nose slightly with black strap being represented in the best light
possible with deeply roasted malts, deep brown sugars, and subtle char on all sides
with notes of dark/bruised fruit (plum and a touch of black berry)on the sides mingling
nicely with warming booze and brulee that is all within balance. Nice mouth feel, smooth
and slick, coating, and warming....medium slick feel with low carbonation. Overall a fantastic
porter with a nice English touch.
Cheers

Consumed on draft at Tony's Darts Away on May 19th, 2016.
Clear deep brown with ruby highlights. Long-lasting head with good sheeting.
Aroma is boozy, a little metallic and sugary. Roses?
Flavor is dominated by the molasses that have been added. Overly sweet and full of melanoidins, this is one of the least portery porters I can recall having. Low/no bitterness.
Mouthfeel is typically thin for the style and marked by alcohol heat and a juiciness that kind of sorta ruins it a little.
Maybe this needs cellar time to develop? If so, then why put fresh kegs on draft?
