On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.
Pours a hazy orange-red with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with a caramel flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the taste is better in my opinion.

Dark brown slightly amber, touch of laceing.
Smells of caramel malts with a hint of boozyness. A bit of piny hop notes. Touch of grapefruit as well.
Taste has some piney bite with that caramel maltyness and some of a slight toffee burnt note. Reminds me of some candy sweetness you get from candied apples.
Its fairly smooth and round, its got some sharpness in there too.
Overall, it's an interesting and flavorful red ale. Has enough piny hop notes to balance out the roasted caramel malts. Not as session able as most red ales can be due to some boozyness that's apparent.

A: Amber brown in the glass with an off-white foamy head which leaves behind a ring of bubbles that cling to the glass.
S: Pine, earth, and citrus aromatics spread over a thick malt brown sugar, caramel and bready middle.
T: Balanced and smooth opening with sweet maltiness: brown sugar, caramel and lightly toasted bread. The hops build to a peak of earthy, piney and citrus zest bitterness. The finish is spicy and astringent with faint warming alcohol.
M: Medium feel and strong hop oil linger with enough carbonation to keep the palate engaged.
O: Cismontane continues to enthrall me with their brews. Bloody Surfer is well balanced with great malt and hop characteristics making for an awesome, highly drinkable brew. I look forward to what this young brewery has to offer the California microbrew world.
