Fun bar to check out when you are way up north. Pretty standard fair of beers. Bartenders are nice. Good vibe. Prices are reasonable. I had a pale that hit the spot.

New building overlooking the harbor, right on US 61 in Grand Marais. High ceilings, concrete floor and big windows. Nice and modern but a little cold and noisy. Visited late afternoon on the last Saturday in September. Food is limited to light appetizer items and a little on the spendy side. The beers are the regular line up plus the rotators & seasonals. Two size pours and the which vary by what is poured.

Update in Jan '17. Beer was much the same. The food menu is upgraded and the service was far better. Still, $11 for two pretzels made from the brewery's own spent grain?

What a beautiful brewery, alot of compassion went into this place, a clean beautiful 1st floor entrance with fireplace and ample seating is what you see first everything clean and well done, the two barkeeps could not have been nicer friendly and talkative about the brewery and beer , we opted to sit upstairs on a gorgeous deck overlooking Lake Superior its a great view even being across the street! Did not try the food but it looked good. The brews were well made but nothing was outstanding just good but the brewery itself and owners is what makes this place worth a stop. Highly recommended

This is such an amazing atmosphere. Reclaimed wood everywhere, the Hamms canoe and a history of it all, too. The beers that I tried were above average to good. Nothing blew me away, but its a good start for a young brewery. I did not try the food, although the menu looked very interesting.

Really nice looking tap room that would easily rival the best spaces in the twin cities. Awesome rooftop patio that looks out over the harbor. They serve small plates that looked and sounded good, but we didn't eat anything.

Problem is the beer. It needs a lot of work. I tried a flight of everything on tap and found them to be mediocre (porter, brown ale) to difficult to finish (IPA - bad aftertaste, summer ale). Will check them out again but hope they dial in the recipes a bit.

Beautiful new space with great windows and light, a fireplace, and views of Lake Superior (though on the wrong side of Hwy 61). They had their four regular beers on tap plus a seasonal (the IIPA)...in a city, the selection would be less than average, but in Grand Marais, it's hard to feel too picky.

update, from 2024: because the family usually makes it up to GM a few times a year, I've been back many times since they first opened. I'll leave my original ratings, though, in all honesty, giving the beer a 3.75, on average, is probably a little too high -- usually their best offerings are about a B+ -- and the food might be a little too high, too. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the vibe and setting are unique, so when I add it all up, I guess everything just rises in the overall estimation.

Brewery and taproom across from Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. Fireplace, long wooden bar, great chairs make this a place to enjoy craft beer. Kitchen serves appetizers but the brew master is where it is at! He not only knows beer, he enjoys it - probably even dreams about it!
