Named in honor of Alton's own Robert Wadlow, this West Coast style Double IPA is big on aroma and ABV, but relatively gentle on bitterness.

Pours extra dark like a amber ale. Head is slightly tan, however is sort of thick. Nose is malty and dank. Taste is very much the same, malty and pine with a decent bitterness. Feel is smooth and not overwhelming.

Deep mahogany brown in color with some fine sediment within the body. There’s a half inch of tightly knit creamy brown on top. Heavy, soapy lacing. The aroma is of pine and biscuity malt. I’m tasting piney hops and a bit of citrus. The mouth is sticky and lightly chalky.

L: Reddish brown and very cloudy looking with a decent finger and a half head.
S: Hop bitterness yet sweet and fruity at the same time. Very good smelling beer.
T: Hoppy and fruity just like the smell indicates. This has a bigger hop presence than a regular IPA but doesn't really feel like a double IPA either. The fruit taste makes this beer a very refreshing double, dangerous considering it's 8%.
F: Nice hop bite at the end, but it feels kinda flat and watery at the end.
O: not a bad beer at all if it was around I wouldn't have a problem buying again, i wouldn't be my first choice though.

with more and more big hoppy beers starting to taste the same these days, i a a fan of something like this, taking a chance to be a little different and stand apart from the crowd. that said, this is a level of refinement away from all the way dialed in, and while i give them a lot of credit for being all organic, getting cans out there, and making something distinct, i think its way too sweet to be reasonable in a pint size dose, and for all i like about it, i tire of it quickly because of the residual sugar. it almost doesnt even seem like its the red malt making it sweet, like, i taste the toasted and nutty and even earthy elements of this deeper than normal grain but i dont necessarily taste it in particular as being the sweet link in here. it just seems not all the way fermented, like the sweetness has no flavor, like they added corn sugar or something and didnt allow it to run its course completely. the hops are great though, especially with the red grain. pine and orange, super fresh and fragrant and well dosed, delightful really, and only a bit bitter to finish. old bakery is doing some great stuff, and if this were even 15% less sweet than it is, it would be really dynamite. even still, i like it taking a different approach to this style. super cool its organic too!

Poured out a clear, copper color with a good deal of yeast sediment and a small, off-white head. It smelled of roasted malt, pine and citrus. Strong roasted malt flavor with a bitter bite. Some pine and citrus flavors.
