Notes:
Our New Hop Smell is finally here and it features experimental hop #06297. These exp hops have been around for a while but often take over a decade to grow, inspect, and commercialize, and so, aren’t often used. Due to increasing prices of more traditional hops and growing creativity in the industry, these bad boys have become more and more popular. Carrying the flavors of its parents, Eastern Gold, Apollo, and Cascade, hop #06297 brings out flavors and aromas of tangy tropical fruits, berries, and hints of vanilla.

I love Port Brewing, I love the Hop Concept and all that they brew in San Marcos. Honestly I never had anything bad or even mediocre from them, and this one is no exception either.
New Hop Smell means freshness and intensity and the could make this beer so. It has an exceptional dank, earth and pine character along with a sweet malt character. Putting the two together, they blend into a hop-honey infused, classic West Coast IPA - which is great! It is your IPA that you want to go to. It might not be the rarest or most innovative blend but it is the kind of IPA that you (or at least I, for sure) love, hands down.
So for me, this is a great IPA. A great hop experience. I feel happy to have had this.

Pours a semi clear orange with nice, thick head.
Smell is piney with notes of peach, white tea and citrus.
Taste is mildly bitter, with notes of citrus and peach and some floral tea.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, a nice, but subdued IPA.

I was excited to try this new brew, especially after the Simco Citra release. The alcohol was a tad high for me but the drinking was super easy and enjoyable.

Kinda dark in the bar, so Raul will venture on the more positive side for the appearance. Smell is of a floral garden that Elizabeth Taylor wouldn’t tend, maybe someone lesser like Mary Astor in her “speaky days.” Flavor is light hops, and finishes super dry like a Death Valley winter.
Raul would not venture here again.

Handsome clear golden amber brew with a pile of white foam in the Rodenbach goblet. The aromatics are quite heady. Lush mouthfeel with a fine fizz. Quite sharp and acidic.
Unusual flavors, like Concord grape. After a brief honeymoon on the tongue the bitterness takes over, but what did you expect from The Bitterness Concept? did they just totally overdose the hops? I"d like to taste this hop in a more restrained brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Best Damn downtown.
