I am sampling a 473 ml can at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. I picked up this beer in a cooler at Bagtown Brewing. Cool that they sell other local craft beers.
No date stamping on the can. And I gotta say , the labeling is not impressive, but maybe the beer is good! Books and covers or something.
The beer pours a dark coffee brown color with a creamy dense tan head of 2 cm and fades to a sturdy edge layer in the glass. I do get some scattered lattice when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is some roasted malt notes and dark cocoa, with a bit of chalky note and some earthy hops that come through as well. no hint of the ABV, also not really any maple notes either....
First sip reveals a medium body and smooth texture and fine gentle rolling carbonation. Pretty nice on the physical features.
Flavor is roasted malt and dark chocolate with a bit of a chalky and minerally finish. Also hints of an earthy hop note buried underneath, but again, no maple. No hint of ABV here either and this beer is very easy to drink.
Its a fine porter, maybe a little thin, but the lack of maple in a beer called Project Maple is disappointing for this reviewer.
