Another beer from my friend up north, thanks, Peter. Poured into a Weizen glass at 42 degrees. The pour created a light tan frothy and airy two-fingered head. The retention was fair, dissipating quickly and leaving nothing on the glass. Charting the color of the beer is around SRM 18 dark amber with mahogany red hues. Some clarity persists when put up to a light source. I would have liked to see a longer-lasting head, but overall an elegant appearance.
Nosing the beer, I smell caramel, bready notes, banana phenols, cloves, earthiness, and cereal grains.
I was concerned with the strong banana and clove aromas; however, it did not translate into being heavy on the palate. Those flavors found balance with wheat, caramel, a hint of char, breadiness, and earthiness.
The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, finishing mildly. The body is medium-light, and the carbonation is low.
This is the second beer from Muddy York; so far, I am enjoying the unique style they provide to the craft beer market. It is wonderful to see brewery doing something non-mainstream. I enjoyed sipping this beer wish I had several more cans.
