This Barrel-Aged Plank Road Baltic Porter has been aged in a Offley Tawny Port Barrel, perfectly balancing its robust flavours. Vinous and oaky with warm notes of alcohol, this year’s iteration really highlights an added layer of oak, date & raisin.

Got this from Emma and Terry a while back. Cheers!

APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yields a two finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with good retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a half wisp and ring. A slight wisp remains leaving no real lacing on the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Sherry, oak, red grapes chocolate aromas, some roasted notes and vanilla on the nose. Bold.
TASTE: Oak, sherry notes, with some wood, tobacco, leather, roasted notes and some pure chocolate at the swallow. Bold finish of oak, sherry barrel, tobacco, roasted flavors, some red grapes and pure chocolate linger on the palate. A hit of alcohol as well.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: Really nice stuff. Lovely aroma and very nice flavor profile on this one. Good balance between the base porter and the lovely sherry barrel, and a nice, creamy smooth body to support it all. Well made and well worth checking out if you’ve got the means. Thanks again guys!
