Deep, dark brown - almost black - with a thick brown head. The head is dense. Amazingly dense. You look at the head on this beer and wonder why it doesn't sink to the bottom. It leaves thick, clinging rings on the glass. Smells of roasted barley, coffee, and hints of chocolate. Taste full of roasted barley, some hints of smoky chocolate and coffee. Very bitter brew. Wonderfully bitter, in fact! Nice finish, with a slight lingering taste of bittersweet chocolate really rounds this brew out. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Thick, almost chewey body. Very good stout - I should have brought home a growler...
