Once you’ve created a monster, it can’t always be controlled—this untamed barleywine is both gentle giant and brutish beast, wielding sultry notes of dried fruits and fortified wine. Show it due respect, and it will return the favour.

Purchased from the source in June 2024 and drunk in January 2025. This was the 2023 vintage.

L: The beer presents muddy orange-brown with a thin, dirty, off-white head.

S: The nose gives off bitter orange, old malt and tea leaves. There's no mistaking that this is a barleywine!

T: Taste is bitter candied orange, huge notes of booze, cognac and brandy, earth and soil, bitter and sweet aftertaste. The booze backs off as it warms, turning this into a delicious sipper.

M: The body is full and rich, with minimal carbonation. There's a very slight carbonic bite in the swallow. The booze and the warmth it imparts make up for the lack of carbonation.

O: Delicious!

Cheers!
