De Zombier. En copa Teku. Jugando a Truberbrook, y luego a Rayman Legends. Buena barleywine con notas de cognac pero sin llegar a entusiasmar debido a una excesiva presencia del alcohol y la falta de algo especial que la haga destacar

Got this one at the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 30
EBU: 65
Malts: Pale ale & caramel
Hops: Citra & Cascade
Barley wine aged on cognac barrels
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, looser, foamy, very fizzy off-white head with somewhat lousy retention. Deep maroon red/brown, opaque, with no carbonation evident. Head quickly fizzes down to a half cap. Slight wisp remains but no real lacing on the glass.
SMELL: A good dose of cognac, booze, caramel and some red fruity notes on the nose. Lots of toffee with some oaky, vanilla aromas as well. Boozy and plenty of candy.
TASTE: Cognac and wood up front, with some boozy notes as well. A little empty up front, in all honesty, which is a letdown, but there are hints of caramel under the booze as well. Harsher at the swallow with a boozy and lingering finish of cognac, wood, some caramel and toffee, as well as plenty of alcohol.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation for the style. Lighter on the palate, prickly, goes down okay with a harsher burn at the swallow and finishes a bit sticky. Lots of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is okay, but doesn’t quite have the character I was hoping for given the nose, and it’s a little prickly and harsh, even for this style. The cognac barrels come across as rather alcoholic and don’t carry the flavor components I’d like in a cognac BA beer, and the boozy alcohol kind of masks any nuances the base beer may have imparted on the beer. A drinkable creation, but as far as BA barley wines go, this is not quite a standout example of the style.
