Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, fizzy head that soon fades to nothing. Has got quite a lovely, intense caramel fudge aroma to it, although not much else is coming through at the same time. Taste follows the nose, being quite dominated by the caramel fudge, but with some lighter notes of roasted malt, butterscotch, vanilla and just a hint of bourbon as well. Finishes quite sweet, with a lightbitterness and some caramel fudge lingering in the aftertaste. Thin mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and light/medium carbonation.
While this is quite sweet and somewhat one-dimensional, there really is a lovely caramel fudge presence to it that I can quite enjoy even though I'm not usually a huge fan of pastry stouts at all. Some lighter, roasted, bitter and barrel notes, though rather subtle, also provide just enough of a balance here to prevent this from drifting offinto sickly sweet territory. If you love caramel, you will probably love this as well. Just a bit of a shame that the mouthfeel is rather light and thin here.
