Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells quite intoxicating of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and coffee, with just a hint of licorice coming through as well. Taste is a great balance between quite roasted, caramel malt and rich chocolate and coffee notes, as well as hints of dark fruit, licorice and tobacco. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some cocolate and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation.
Probably the first brew by Kees that has truly impressed me. While it may not be too complex and just a tiny tad too sweet and caramelly for my personal, there is a great overall balance of sweet and bitter, roasted notes going on here, with some quite rich chocolate and coffee notes, as well as a great, full, almost creamy mouthfeel.
