From a 750 ml bottle dated 11/1/17. Sampled March 19, 2023. This one is aged in gin barrels.

The pour is mostly amber brown with a milky red sensation if held to the light. Quick lived head.

The aroma is toffee and butterscotch malts, dark fruit, plum, raisins, wood, spice, licorice and alcohol even after five years.

The mouthfeel is medium to full and it is creamy too.

The taste is sweet at first but then those dark fruit and grainy characteristics take over. I note more alcohol in the taste than in the aroma. Not as warming as some barleywines but it definitely is a slow taster.

I picked up a growler of this yesterday at Rockingham, for $18.00. This is the basic, non-barrel aged Comraderry.

It is quite opaque, a deep, dark chestnut color. Head is quite thin and fine, mainly just a few scattered bubbles clinging to the sides. lacing, though, is pretty good. Aroma has some caramel malt, plus some pithy citrus. Body is around medium, and it is fairly smooth on the tongue.

Taste has some decent malt sweetness, with caramel and toffee hitting the palate. It also has a good, healthy dose of hoppage. Lots of pine and resin coat the tongue, and these particular aspects linger long in the aftertaste. Overall, a nice balance of malt and hops, in the English style. A solid barleywine. Prosit!

Cask at Cask and Vine 300 Pints Fest
Deep tawny brown with a thin white head. Rich caramel and brown sugar with bits of grass and light pitted fruits. Tasty but young barleywine.
