Festbier

I had this beer on-tap in a pub glass at the brewery in Basel. Yes, the menu says it's name is "Festbier" but its type is a bock -- and it definitely tastes like a bock.

Appearance: medium golden hue with. light haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam atop.

Smell: malt is quite sweet but is has that rich, not-quite-caramelly aroma classic to the style. Clean and enticing.

Taste: like the aroma, it's sweet, but not more than the style describes. Bitterness is bracing but balanced for the sweetness. A good bock.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a good creaminess.

Overall: bock isn't my favorite type of beer but this is a well-executed example of the style.
