Available in a 12 can taster pack (3 cans of this and 3 cans of Grasshopper Wheat Ale, among others). This is a little darker with a deeper flavour than the Grasshopper Wheat Ale. The pepper spice flavour is present but subtle. Same smooth, easy drinking feel as the Grasshopper Wheat Ale. Overall, a notch better.

355ml can poured into tulip 12/7/14

A clear golden liquid, bubbles throughout, a short lived finger of foam leaves no lace

S dry cereal, a little lemon and faint pepper, not a whole lot going on really

T a little grass and yeast, faintly spicy, like Grasshopper with a little spice, not exactly mind blowing

M thin and a little airy, spice on the finish

O I'm not sure what I was expecting but this is pretty much Grasshopper with a little spice

drinkable but not something I'd bother with again, another one and done

355ml can, from the current Swingers mixed-pack. A wheat ale (presumably something based on Grasshopper), with fancy-schmancy Tellicherry black pepper (I had to look it up too) added.

This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with two fingers of loosely foamy, barely frothy, and sort of just, well, sitting there off-white head, which leaves an oddly bovine-apparent lace profile in one spot as it quickly subsides.

It smells prominently of mildly spicy and earthy peppercorns, sedated semi-sweet wheaty malt, a weak drupe fruitiness, and not much else. The taste is more sharp (it's Big Rock, so that knife is overused and mostly dull) exotic black pepper heat, gritty, grainy wheat malt, echos of auras of a ghost of banana fruitiness, and some weird and inane yeast.

The carbonation is moderate in its plain as rain frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and pretty pithy in its attempt at smoothness, and I'm man enough to blame a chunk of that on the guest ingredient. It finishes mostly dry, the pepper outdoing the lingering bland wheatiness - who'd a thunk it?

I'm starting to wonder if some of the pepper for this offering cross-contaminated the Juniper lager from the same package - and if so, that beer bore the spice a hell of a lot better than this one has. Cracked Pepper Wheat Ale is indeed pithy, but given that's its only real drawback, this will work, if you like foodie-friendly peppered wheat ales (that last part in name only).
