355ml can, yet another offering made for the President's Choice house brand at the Real Canadian Supastore's own likkasto'.
This beer pours a super-clear, very, very pale golden straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, weakly foamy, and fizzy dirty white head, which leaves some sparse specks of dried suds lace around the glass as it quickly dissolves from sight.
It smells of musty corn harvest time, y'know, the ears that maybe were left in the field too long, and get mushy in your hands (ick), rice cakes that have invariably been forgotten in the pantry, like, forever, fruity nail polish remover, hard water, and faint leafy, weedy, and skunky hops. The taste is slimy, gritty corn compote (but 'light', eh?), a more ethereal acetone character than that of the nose, the footprint (in a crime scene sense) of a wan drupe fruitiness, and weedy, stankified hops that have thankfully bailed on this project.
The bubbles are pretty easy-going, actually, just a weak frothiness emanating at the best (and the blurst) of times, the body surprisingly medium-light in weight (um, yay, Big Rock?), and smooth, sure, but the waiver you have to sign just makes it seem less than worth it. It finishes a wee bit off-dry, the so-called malt garnering the temerity for one last, erp, hurrah, while the rest of this thing contemplates its reason for being.
A product that probably isn't all that different from Alta Light or Co-op's or Original Joe's or Liquor Depot's versions of the style from this contract-happy brewery. Just unpleasant enough to wonder why people put up with this shit to save a single measly point of alcohol. Bleh.
