My strong suspicion here is that the "Hefehopper" is merely a batch of standard Big Rock Grasshopper that went unfiltered. Maybe not a stretch, but if that's the case, they clearly just need to replace Grasshopper with this because--and I'm confused by the other reviews here--this is just a really, really good beer. It can't compete with a legit German hefe, and it suffers from the Big Rock yeast, but it nevertheless might be the best Big Rock beer I've had in years. Grasshopper on steroids.

I too fell for the Hefe hype. Sadly it really was just an unfiltered, slightly more yeasty version of their Grasshopper wheat beer...

This beer just came into my store, and I thought "Hefeweizen grasshopper? Aren't they the same thing?" I had hoped to see a comeback of the "infected" Grasshopper, that had the wonderful clouding, and this MUST BE IT!
As far as looks go, in the bottle, its pale, slightly cloudy, and has a large amount of sediment compared to the average Big Rock fare. In the glass, its much the same: straw yellow, with a little bit of the sediment stirred up.
The smell is hard to place. A bit of wet bread- maybe from the hops, some typical hefeweizen smells as well- a touch of banana here, a hint of clove there. Nothing can cover the overwhelming similarity to the smell of an adjunct lager though, and this is where I become afraid.
The adjunct flavour is strong with this one. I imagine that there might be a banana peel in the fermentation vessel, somewhere, but it might just be my imagination. A hint of spice in the aftertaste lets me know that, yes, the drink I'm consuming is still a hefeweizen.
The carbonation is very strong, overpowering what might be a nice, mild body, that leaves a strange, astringent taste. Perhaps if I left it to sit for a while, this could be a better review.
All said and done, this grasshopper/hefeweizen is pretty average fare from Big Rock. After the last few experimental brews, I expected this to be a much more "... complex ale, bready and citrusy with hints of banana and notes of vanilla and cloves that pours an opaque golden yellow." What came out reminds me more of the macro that they were saying they aren't.
