This brew is reminiscent of a Canadian amber ale with hopps but with many characteristics of a less offensive IPA. I consider this a "light" IPA if such a thing exists. I buy it on occasion because its 10$/6 which is cheap for Canada, SK. Its brewed by BigRock and its arguably the best cheap beer sold at coop liquor, and the best no name on the shelf since it has that big rock name to back it up. I prefer it over all cheap macro american beers to be honest. This is by no means the first IPA i reach for, but its easy to drink and satisfies that craving for IPA characteristics. I would sooner reach for this than any easy drinking ale but its not going to satisfy the beer snobs looking for a robust full flavor IPA.

355ml can, made for the Co-op chain of liquor stores in Calgary and the surrounding area. And what the hell does 'batch brewed' even mean?
This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly bubbly off-white head, which leaves some natural land-bridge lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, muddled light orchard fruit (cantaloupe?), brown sugar, and some very weak leafy, piney, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, indistinct citrus flesh, some further melon-esque fruitiness, and more very tame leafy, weedy, and floral hop bitterness.
The carbonation is adequate for its support job, and nothing else, via its plain-Jane frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a small airy creaminess settling in from the outset. It finishes well off-dry, all of that caramel still looking like it's going to be sticking around for a good long while.
Overall, this is more of a slightly hoppy Canadian amber ale than anything particularly IPA-like. Easy enough to drink, inexpensive, and tasty in its own right, but if you're looking for a robustly hoppy and/or bitter brew, you best be searching elsewhere, I'm afraid.

355ml can poured into tulip 7/4/15
A clear copper liquid, lots of big bubbles but only a short lived finger of foam that leaves no lace
S some melon, lots of soft caramel, fairly malty, faint peach, maybe a hint of citra like catty notes?
T some hops but its tame, like a hopped up Trad, lots of caramel for the style, tastes OK
M medium bodied, enough bubbles to give it some life, slick on the palate
O not all that hoppy for an IPA but its drinkable and cheap, not bad lawnmower beer
It has that Big Rock house flavor but with some hops I can't recall in a Big Rock beer, is it possible that Big Rock got some new ingredients to brew with?
