This one surprised me but didn't knock my socks off. It's ibu isn't high enough to satisfy my taste for IPA but I suppose it's good as an introductionary brew. I was able to share one with my old man without insulting his palate that favors clean light tasting lager and pilsner. One thing I can confidently say is that it's more of an IPA than Alexander kieths. For one this inexpensive I expected more of that cheap beer alcohol note on the tail but it seems to be hidden. Moderate lace remains, and unimpressive on the nose. Serve cold in a glass because the can doesn't do this one any favors.

355ml can, part of the 12-packs they are sold in at the Real Canadian Liquor stores in Alberta.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and rather fizzy off-white head, which leaves a bit of remote island chain lace in places around the glass as it quickly evaporates.

It smells of semi-sweet, fairly doughy caramel malt, further phenolic yeast tones, a punchy overripe apple and pear fruitiness, white and black pepper dust, and a faint hint of earthy, leafy, and weedy hops. The taste is grainy, bready, and doughy caramel malt, more muddled pome fruitiness, tacky tabletop pepper, and a still unheralded weedy, leafy, and ethereally citrusy hop, er, 'bitterness'.

The carbonation is adequate for the scant job of frothy support that it provides here, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, but for that pithy otherness pervading this scene. It finishes sweet, kind of clammy, and well, nothing.

Yeah, judging against the proclaimed style, this is not an IPA, and not even really all that bitter. What it is, however, is cheap, inexpensive (they're different things), and not too hard to drink - ideal for election result gawking and surmising what will be - what will be, indeed.
