Had this at Calgary Crowfoot Hudsons location. A favorite of my brother in law. Light amber with fairly minimal head. Aroma was wheaty and rather saccharine. Incredibly sweet even for a Hefe, palate is loads of caramel corn, some vanilla, the requisite banana, almost no trace of bitter. Lingers on the palate with more of the same sweet. Heavily carbonated to boot, with a moderately chewy body. Obviously this is made with the right Hefe yeast and there is some spice but such elements take a clear backseat here. Decent session beer if you have a sweet tooth.

20oz pint at the Edmonton Oliver location, the most recent release in the Discovery Collection rotational series. The second summer in a row, same style of beer, sigh.

This beer appears a hazy medium golden yellow hue, with one finger of tightly foamy, soapy, yet somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves little beyond a low bathtub ring of lace around the glass as it genially abates.

It smells of sweet wheat grain, vanilla cream, a touch of clove, and some indistinct citrus rind. The taste again leads with the sweetness - primarily the soft vanilla notes - though the edge of the wheaty malt is equally dulled, with some middling orange and banana fruit esters mulling about, and a weak peppery clove spiciness rounding things further.

The carbonation is a tad prickly, but in no big way, the body a decent medium-full weight for the style, and generally rather smooth. It finishes well on the off-dry side, as the vanilla-tinged wheat malt holds tough enough.

Kind of a hefeweizen borne of all those stupid warning labels, along the lines of 'caution: boiling contents may be hot', as all the pep and sass seems honed off. Tasty? Sure, as it's not even really cloying, but I can't get past the focus on the sweet, instead of a good wheaty, spicy balance. I'm sure this will please the thirsty sun-bathing masses - unfortunately I'm just a single man on a rainy spring day.

Pint on draft. Pours with light body and decent carbonation. Nose definitely has vanilla notes, as well as some light spice. Great and easy drinking flavor. Really refreshing taste and mouthfeel. A definitely enjoyable sessionable summer beer available only at Hudsons. Great job overall on this vanilla hef
