BOTTLE: Brown glass. 33cl. Unbranded pry-off crown cap. Appealing label art.

4.70% ABV. 52 EBU.

Reviewed live as an IPA per the label. Expectations are above average given the brewery's high reputation. Served cold into a mason jar.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: White colour. Foamy and frothy enough. Leaves no lacing as it recedes. Retention is nice - ~5 minutes.

BODY: Murky nontransparent copper. Somewhat dull and unappealing. I see no yeast or sediment. Appears unfiltered.

Looks well-carbonated. But it lacks the clear vibrant colour of a good IPA, and the head could be softer and more inviting.

AROMA: Floral hop character, tropical fruit (including mango and passionfruit), citrus peel, and pale malts. Hops are prominent but not intense or overpowering.

Aromatic intensity is average. I detect no off-notes, overt yeast, or booze.

Suggests a simple but pleasant IPA with a middling hop profile.

TASTE: Tropical fruits dominate, with some bitter rind and floral character in there too. Mango, tangerine, passionfruit, citrus peel. Stale pale malts provide the simple backbone, and the taming sweetness. It comes out imbalanced, though, with the rindy bitterness lingering through the third act. Something like peach or apricot develops as it comes to temperature.

Depth of flavour is wanting. Flavour duration and intensity are average. It's decent, but there isn't much here in terms of intricate layers of flavour or subtle nuances. Pretty straightforward, with a ho-hum hop profile.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, and fairly refreshing. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

A bit rough around the edges, but this texture isn't a bad companion to the taste. There isn't a harmony between mouthfeel and flavour profile, though.

OVERALL: A forgettable and unremarkable IPA from Pyynikki. Drinkable, though the mere 4.7% ABV is actually somehow noticeable. Not a beer I'd bother with again.
