Best brewery we hit in KC
Relaxed lay out, great for watching a game of or just having a chat
All beers were good to very good, took 3 different ones to go. The DIPA was much better on draft than the cans I picked up
friendly bar staff, loved talking beer
Nice spread of beers with some guest taps

Quality smaller place in the red hot Cross roads neighborhood, of Kansas City...
Several of their own tasty brew available on tap....friendly and informative bartender is always a plus, as is some outdoor space to sit and enjoy the evening air.
Not overwhelmed by the beer, but the atmosphere and chill vibe of this place makes it worth checking out if you are in the area or doing a Cross roads pub crawl

Sometimes, beer tastes better with great conversation and context. This place is small, and in a neighborhood plenty of competition. That doesn’t stop the beer and good times. With a small and open storefront, the brewery also has a small patio. The beer is well a made, especially an esb. We had great conversations here and really enjoyed the beer.

Border Brewery's connection to the street is through a glass/aluminum garage door and a standard door. Once inside, the atmosphere is open, but small. Hardwood floors support small 4-people tables, a short bar, a comfy couch, and a long, regular-height bar along a wall. The brewery equipment is front and center behind the bar and locked behind a 6 foot chain link fence. A little interesting and different and sort of detracts from the otherwise comfy feel. A couple TVs are available for viewing sports. An updated chalk board tap list keeps the current brews on display. Service was good, with quick and friendly service. Selection centered mostly on IPAs, but featured beers in all the corners of styles. Glassware was kept simple - regular pint glasses, or a tulip. Overall, a simple brewery with some good action going on in the beer, and a simple, but homey vibe for clientele.

Hit this place up on a mostly dead Weds about 30 min prior to closing. Walked up to the bar and ordered the Rye IPA from a mostly bored and unengaged bartender. $6, left a buck tip, didn't get a thank you. Music was okay, UFC and basketball on a few flatscreens scattered about a relatively small space. The beer was good with an aggressive rye nose. The hop and abv seemed to nicely offset the rye, but it was still a rye forward IPA with a distinct spiced finish and moderately thick mouthfeel. My only complaint was on the carbonation, which I thought might have been a little lacking and added to a hint of slickness. It's almost like the beer wants to dry out on the finish, but cannot overcome the rye spice and minimal carbonation. Not bad, just not quite right. Given the okay beer and the less than friendly, end of shift service, I kind of got a negative, pretentious vibe from this place. My scores above are giving them the benefit of the doubt that I just caught them at the wrong time.

Small brewery near downtown that's been around for nearly two years. Garage door opening into a small intimate space. Short 8 seater bar, 6 four seater high top tables, and a line of seats against the wall. 3 tvs if you're interested in a game while drinking craft. I can say the music was pretty good while there for my Campfire Porter.
All that said, in my opinion, the beers I tried (admittedly all two of them) were sub-par. Based on my limited sampling, I'm hopeful this new-ish brewery will improve over time, but their space is inviting and has a nice vibe to it.

Located in the Crossroads arts district, near several new breweries like Double Shift and Torn Label. Makes For an easy pub crawl to explore the area.
Small intimate taproom, tables clustered by the front door you had to to squeeze past to get to the bar towards the back. Bar seating for 6-8, and stools along the wall in back. A little tight if there's a crowd. Vibe was clean and industrial with exposed ceilings, brick walls, pipes and fermenters visible. Some obligatory art on the walls with the KC skyline painted across several panels.
Service was quick and friendly, samples were in the $2-3 range.
Beers were good, we tried 3 and the best was the imperial coffee stout. Overall the styles seemed to range from basic pale and red ales to smoked Porter and double IPA. There was a single rotating tap based on customer votes.
A good experience, especially in tandem with the other area breweries within a few blocks.

Very solid selection and every beer style is done well. $5 a pint and $6 for a flight of four 4oz pours is a hell of a deal too.

This place is small. Indoor seating for maybe 50. The fermenters are visible behind the bar. They're not big, either. Smaller than most refrigerators. It's a friendly atmosphere with good service. The beer is good and from what I hear keeps getting better.

This place is a lot cooler than the sum of its ratings, I never think these are adequate. Their score will suffer because they only have four beers pouring, but who cares, they are fresh and delicious and the space is great. Downtown but a tad off the beaten path. Cool little old brick building with a very hip artsy feel. Hand painted art in the walls, just a couple of barrel brew house and a bar that seated maybe ten. Clean and bright in the inside, restored and classy feeling. One guest tap and four house beers when I was in. Basic styles all of them. A red, a pale, a blonde, and a porter. Humble way to start, been only open since February. The blonde was the only beer I had, but it was distinct and very well done. Patrons were of a mixed demographic, all really taking it in, I loved the vibe in here and felt immediately part if something. Staff was nice but not too chatty, and on the whole I think these guys have a really good thing going. Well worth the trip to this part of town if you are in the area, I am itching to go back for the other beers they had. Very very cool spot, I wish them great success!
