Pastry Sour,

Strawberry, Lemon Zest & Biscuit Crumb Imperial Gose - Hop aboard and come for a ride on this thick fruity concoction. Big waves of strawberry hitting all your taste zones, backed up with the sharp top notes of lemon zest, before all being brought together with a slight biscuity crumble. Think strawberry cheesecake in liquid form and you’re almost there.

Pours a deep, dark orange coloration with a large, creamy, lasting head. Smells of doughy malt and strawberry, with hints of lime peel and lactose also coming through. Taste is a great balance of light doughy malt, a distinct strawberry presence and lighter lime peel, lactose and biscuit, with a light underlying acidity. Finishes with a light tartness and some strawberry, lime peel and lactose lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While I think that it's criminal to label this as a Gose, it does make for a pretty nice, if slightly artificial pastry sour. It's quite interesting to me that the ingredients and label description list "biscuit" on the can, but "biscuit aroma" on the german ingredient sticker and this certain, sweet, doughy biscuit note does feel slightly artifical here, although the strawberry and lime peel provide a more natural feeling balance of sweet and slightly zesty notes to this. "Strawberry Cheese Cake" does feel like an accurate descriptor here, with this making for an enjoyable example of the pastry sour style overall, with not a hint of booziness to it despite the ABV .
